Hario V60

A simple and approachable V60 recipe.

Standard Recipe:

33g coffee • 500g water • 205°F

Method:

  1. Rinse filter: Place filter in your V60 and rinse with about 100g of hot (205°F) water. Pour out the water from the vessel into the sink.
  2. 0:00 - Bloom: Pour 70g of water in a spiral motion starting from the center and working outwards, saturating all the coffee.
  3. 0:45 - Second Pour: Pour to 300g starting in the center and moving outwards in a spiral motion. Make sure to end by circling back into the center of the device.
  4. 1:25 - Third Pour: Pour to 400g in a quick, spiral motion.
  5. 1:55 - Fourth Pour: Pour steadily in the center until total weight reaches 500g.

Tips:

  • Aim for a total brew time of 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Examine your coffee bed after drawdown—a flat and even bed means that the coffee was evenly extracted.
  • If your total brew time is too long or short, adjust your grind size. A finer grind will slow down the drawdown time and result in a higher extraction.
  • The age of your coffee beans can affect overall extraction. For coffee 1-12 days off roast, lowering water temp to 200-203°F could result in a better cup.
