Grown on the lush slopes of Gatare Hill, this exceptional lot is a celebration of smallholder craftsmanship. With a full-bodied profile, it bursts with vibrant tropical fruit notes and a silky, honey-like sweetness that lingers on the palate.

In Burundi, coffee isn’t just a crop—it’s a lifeline. Over 600,000 smallholder farmers grow coffee here, with their earnings often supporting entire families. That’s nearly half the country’s population connected to coffee in some way—an incredible testament to the impact of this industry.

One special place in this coffee-rich landscape is Gisha, a region named by King Bigayimpunzi, the former ruler of the Tangara commune and founder of the Democratic and Rural party. His legacy lives on in the grand palace still perched on a nearby hill, once home to royalty and now a residence for regional dignitaries.

Today, the Gisha Washing Station carries forward this spirit of pride and excellence. It works with around 1,750 local producers, paying well above the national average for cherry. The result? Outstanding quality, recognized globally—Gisha proudly placed 11th in the 2019 Cup of Excellence. With fertile soil and passionate producers, every cup tells a story worth sipping.
