More Info

Kunjin is the name of a coffee-producing region in the Western Highlands of Papua New Guinea. Smallholder farmers have about 3.5 acres of land each, growing about 700 trees per acre. Through centralized milling and drying, quality is controlled at the processing level which leads to better cup character from the mixed lots. Coffee is processed in a leased, vintage John Gordon–brand wet mill in an old plantation left over from colonial times, as owning a mill or even property in PNG is risky: It takes years to establish a reputation of trust with the local tribes, and there is always risk of losing a relationship or business deal when the locals see the mill is becoming profitable. We’re excited to have this uniquely fruity and balanced Papua New Guinea in our lineup!
