Kenyan coffees often stand out because of their bright acidity, rich sugars, and ripe fruit. For a long time though, Kenyan coffees have been lumped together into large lots instead of focusing on what each county can offer in diversity of flavor or profile. Uteuzi Jimbo (Swahili for “county select”) is a regional program that aims to do just this, through isolating four regions to see what they have to offer: Nyeri, Embu, Mt. Elgon, and Kirinyaga. Our newest Uteuzi Jimbo is from Nyeri county, whose coffees set the standard for Kenya. It has citrus notes of grapefruit and orange and caramelized brown sugar. We love how sweet this coffee is!
